The Measure of a Breath
A source-backed adaptation of a Write The Future essay on illness, attention, and healing the whole rather than only the part.
This piece begins with a father counting breaths and widens into the question beneath the measurement: what does healing miss when it treats a body as disconnected parts?
I keep it on this site because it carries a central thread in my work. Systems are necessary. Measurement is necessary. But a good system should help us see more of the person, not less.
In coaching, product work, and care, the same tension returns. We need enough structure to act. We need enough attention to remember what the structure is for.
